They answered: " [This is one of] the most involved and confusing of dreams,* and we have no deep knowledge of the real meaning of dreams."

“Nay," they say, “[Muhammad propounds] the most involved and confusing of dreams!"* “Nay, but he has invented [all] this!" - “Nay, but he is [only] a poet!" - [and,] “Let him, then, come unto us with a miracle, just as those [prophets] of old were sent [with miracles]?"

[And finally We told him:] “Now take in thy hand a small bunch of grass, and strike therewith, and thou wilt not break thine oath!"* for, verily, We found him full of patience in adversity: how excellent a servant [of Ours], who, behold, would always turn unto Us!
